"time marches on and eventually you realize it's marching across your face"
Dolly Parton
"where indeed was our anger"
Harvey Fierstein
"I'm trying to tell you something about my life
Maybe give me insight between black and white
The best thing you've ever done for me
Is to help me take my life less seriously, it's only life after all
Well darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
And lightness has a call that's hard to hear
I wrap my fear around me like a blanket"
The Indigo Girls
Wondering about my place in this big old world. How do I feel about a year that took my cats and saw a return to teaching high school. A year that saw America slide futher towards a culture of war and materialism. I watched New Orleans limp back to life as our children killed each other. I watched the rich get richer and civility decline across every part of american life. Men with hearts of pure evil claimed to speak for god and children blew themselves in his name.
So where do we go from here.
I am going to stand on my toes, look it in the face, and smile, and laugh, and scream, and dance, and sing.
This sweet old world will not be cheapened by the presence of evil.
It is good to finally know that.
Resilience may be what 2007 taught me.
I wish for the world as much love and peace as can fit,
and I hope I can help to refill the well by the way that I live.
peace&pottery
Christopher
