Hello all
Making art, preparing for the NOLA FIRED UP ceramics conference, trying to be a decent teacher, and wondering why the american people still have not managed to impeach bush. He really is a mad man. Questions, questions.
Reading the last volume of Derek Jarman's diaries SMILING IN SLOW MOTION. Quite a beautiful book, sad as he deals with his illness (aids), and yet full of hope and humour as he continues to paint, make films, and write. Inspires me to complain a little less about my life. I am having a hard time finishing the book because of how bad it is getting for him (an artist going blind, my worst nightmare) and it makes me sad. For those of you how do not know Derek Jarman, he was a filmaaker, writer, painter, gardener. I had seen one of his films (edward II), but was not really taken his art until my friend Sharkey gave me a copy of the book DEREK JARMAN'S GARDEN. A beautiful book that has become one of my favorites. Now I am finishing his last book and am wondering what to read next. I have a pile of fiction next to my bed, but am not in a fiction mood. Maybe I will try and track down more of Derek's movies.
peace&pottery
